Default 06 Xterra Electrical Problem

Right after I got my 06 Xterra, with only 400 miles of use, I had something apparently draw too much current, blowing a 10 amp fuse, which then caused the speedometer and odometer to stop working and also set off the following dash lights: “BRAKE”, “ABS”, “VDC OFF” and “SLIP”. After a few minutes, the "Check Engine Soon Light" went on too.

After the dealer checked it out, all they could do was change the fuse, which fixed the speedometer/odometer and turned off all those dash lights. The dealer was unable to fault isolate whatever was drawing the excess current.

Now, about 2000 miles of driving later, I've got the "VDC OFF" and "SLIP" lights back on, but all the fuses are OK and everything else seems to work.

Anyone else experienced this, or any electrical engineers out there got any ideas as to what is causing it?

Thanks!

the vdc off and slip lights could be caused by a bad abs sensor.

An update. The VDC OFF and SLIP lights kept coming on, so I took it into the dealer. Turns out that the wiring harness controlling those lights was getting pinched by the tilt steering wheel knuckle. The pinching had worn through the insulation and shorted a wire against the frame. A little wire work and a slight repositioning of the harness and the problem's solved.
