Default First problem at 89,000 - SES Light On

I'm new to this forum and can already see a lot of good info. A few days ago my son borrowed my wife's '02 XTERRA. It was snowing and pretty slushy and icy on the roads (cental PA). He drove about 3 miles in 4 high ranging from 35 to 55 mph. A few hours later when he left work the SES light was on. I stopped by Auto Zone and they pulled a P0328 (knock sensor) and a P1444 (canister purge volume control solenoid valve). Should I troubleshoot the P1444 first (hose and electrical connections)? If I find something wrong and fix it, will the SES light clear on it's own? Thanks for any help with this.

Until a Specialist replies...I pulled both codes from your Service Manual Section EC - ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM. There are a bunch of pages so I just pulled 1444 and 0328 and created a separate PDF.

2002 XTerra DTC-0328 and DTC-1444 CODE PDF FILE

Hope this helps...
