Local Mechanic shop installed timing belt and no tensioner
I recently got a quote on doing a timing belt, coolant flush, water pump. etc. etc. from a local shop. the price was 1400 with parts. I told them it would be easier to purchase the parts over two weeks time and then get the job done which was fine. I took a day off of work to go over what needed to be done with the truck and they understood everything and everything seemed clear. Then I get a call that my car was done but the mechanic did not feel it was nessissary to replace the tensioner pulley. I fliped out. He said"it looked fine to me" but it has 108,000 miles on it., I don't care how it looks. Now I'd like to know what are my odds of this being ok for a while(because they will not put it in without charging extra) Is really ok to leave the old on one? I am a diesel mechanic with only 5 yrs. experiance at a dealership but it's long enough to know that these little time savers will come back and bite you.

I have never had to replace the tensioner on a 3.3l engine. Have never seen one fail. So in my opinion you should be just fine. Of course it doesn't hurt to change it while you have everything apart. I would be concerned about the shop in general if you asked them to do something and they decided not to do it without asking you. Where I work, if a customer asks for something to be done you do it, or explain to them why you don't think it is necessary and them them decide.
( not my car , not my money, not my decision)
