Default 2002 Xterra Radio Problems

Hi Everyone,

I'm new here and looking for some help. I've owned my Xterra since 2002 (bought it new). I have to say I've had no problems until now. My X wouldn't start the other day. I unlocked it using my handheld lock and when I got in the car the CD player was clicking but the car wouldn't start. I got a new battery and it starts fine now, but, after starting it a few times, my radio and CD player went out. There are no lights on for the radio and it won't even turn on. I don't work, I'm a student and want to know if I can try to fix this myself. Can anyone give me some tips or advice on this. I'm totally lost in what to do.

thanks in advance.....Arlene

Did you check your fuses in the cabin fuse box? There is a possibility that your radio was on when you swapped out the old for the new battery. A surge may have blown the fuse.

I already checked the fuse box. There is no fuse for the radio. At least there are no marking for radion on the cover.

According to your manual (I assume yours doesn't have an AMP)...

10A fuse [No. 18, located in the fuse block (J/B)]

Fuse box (looking at the fuse box)...

Top row should be 4 spare fuses...
You should have 6 columns - right?
You should have 5 rows (NOT COUNTING TOP 4 SPARE FUSE ROW) - right?
On column 4 row 3 (top row is 1 and bottom row is 5) - check fuse.

Default Fuse

The fuse for the radio is located in the engine compartment on left side near the battery. It is labeled "AUDIO" Hope this helps.
