Default Xterra rough start

Hi everyone, I have an 02 Xterra with 189k miles. I have replaced all plugs and wires, it gets regular service and I run injector cleaner every third fill up.

For the past couple of months, I've had a rough start issue. This occurs perhaps one out of 20 starts, happens whether the motor is cold or not. When it starts rough, I sometimes smell a faint exhaust odor. It has thrown a code a few times - misfire on cylinder 2, misfire on cylinder 5. My mechanic thought it might be defective plug wires, so they replaced those. A few weeks later, it misfired again. Other than that it runs perfectly and has been very dependable. Compression test perfect. Gas mileage fine. Doesn't burn oil. (use synthetic).

Ideas? I'm confused by the codes showing a different cylinder each time.

Thanks in advance!
