Default Code PO 0717

My 07 Xterra has this code and I see that the speed turbine sensor is most likely bad. I have seen conflicting stories that say you can install new sensor by pulling the oil pan and some say the transmission has to be removed. Can anyone set me straight on this please? I don’t mind pulling the oil pan but removing the transmission is a different story.

The harness for the connector is on top of the valve body, so that needs to be removed. The wire runs from the connector to the turbine speed sensor, which is located in the tail shaft extension housing, so that needs to be removed, as well. The question that I can't answer is if you can remove the tail shaft extension housing without removing, or at least lowering, the transmission?

so I stopped by a transmission shop today to discuss my 717 issue. I told him about the 717 code and told him I replaced the sensor in the tail shaft which I did Saturday. He pulled out his transmission book and said I replaced the wrong sensor??? He said the sensor that triggered that code is on top of the valve body not the tail shaft. Can anyone clear this up? Everything I read said the turbine sensor is what causes the 717 code, but I replaced it and code is still there. Thanks for any help
