Heater / Fan / Temp / Defrost - cluster
Hoping someone can maybe assist here. I have been unsuccessful in trying to find anything online and trying to fix this myself.
I have a 2005 Xterra and the heater / fan controls and defrost / AC buttons are not working at all. The back lights work that illuminate the knobs and buttons but that is it. I have looked at fuse box and nothing seems to be blown. There are some fuses that are missing but that is nothing new. There have always been some fuses missing when it was working. I took the face plate off to see if there was a connection issue but nothing obvious that I could see on that end. Also after driving for about 15 min there is slight hear that radiates but it's not with force becuase fan is not blowing. Any suggestions on where I should look next? Common problem? It sounds like the heater control head is bad, however, I'd hate to see your change it out and not be the problem. Your best friend is the factory service manual; it'll have a section for the heating & air conditioning with a symptom chart, troubleshooting steps, likely a self-diagnostic procedure (especially if you have auto climate control) and related wiring diagrams and connector views. We "may" have that section in our "knowledge base," but, if it's not, NicoClub.com has free, whole factory manuals available for download.

Appreciate the reply. Would the heater control head affect all of the other knobs / buttons as well though? Cause them not to work as well?

Also wondering if it could be the resistor that needs to be replaced??

Heater control head is an assembly, so if there's an internal failure, then "yes." Blower resistor on a manual system will cause the fan to only blow on the highest fans speed setting but not on other speeds. Auto climate control doesn't have a resistor, but a blower amp, and if it fails, it will go into default mode causing the fan to blow on the highest setting at all times. It would cause the other issues you describe.

Got it and understood. Not sure if there was a misunderstanding here but there is no power in any of the low to high settings on fan. Completely dead. Same with AC or any of the other buttons on that area cluster. No reaction when pushing any of the buttons or turning any of the heater temp / fan speeds.

Ahhh. Ok with you now. Now I understand. Will look into that and update this thread. Thanks

Ac/defrost/heat cluster
2007 Xterra Off Road - An odor came into car of plastic/metal during very cold morning, turned off heat, opened window to air out. Turned heater back on, fan did not work. Turned on AC and compressor would not come on. The AC/Defrost/Heat cluster not working. Thought a fuse but all passenger side fuses are good. What controls this cluster that may need replacing?
