Default 2000 1st gen. Xterra stalled?

I had stopped to take pics and shut the 3.3L engine off. Took pics and tried restarting, started but immediately stalled. Tried again and starter turned over but would not fire. Tried again same situation. Waited 5 minutes and tried once again this time fired ran rough a few moments and after a few moments idled good. Was afraid to shutoff and drove home. Ran fine going home, took a good hour to drive home. Ran it up to 70 mph with no hesitation. I am baffled! Fuel filter, fuel pump? What does this forum think? Thanks for the input. MTG

Default Stalled?

Is there a fuel pressure regulator valve inline with the fuel delivery system? MTG

The fuel pressure is at the end of the fuel rail and located at the back of the engine, near the firewall. If replacing, you would have to remove the upper plenum and likely the fuel injection rails. A fuel pressure test would verify if it is working properly. If your plugs look like they are burning rich (black soot on electrode) or flooded with wet fuel, the regulator could be the problem. Stalling issues on these vehicles are often caused by either a bad distributor or a bad crank position sensor, the latter located at the top of the transmission bellhousing, a bit to the driver's side, and a real PITA to get to unless you have skinny arms and a long reach. Have you checked for stored trouble codes?
