Default whining noise during accleration 2007 xterra

We have noticed a low whining noise just during accleration on our 2007 xterra. The serpentine belt has been replaced and the noise is not coming from anything external in the engine (alternator, pulleys, etc...). You can also hear the whine if the vehicle is in neutral and you acclerate. The whine also gets louder the more you acclerate. Any ideas on what this could be?

That's what we thought also after researching online and finding the service bulletin. Although we have had 2 licensed mechanics look at it and neither thinks it's the timing chain. We are moving forward and replacing the timing chain this week-are the shoes part of that replacement?

They are part of the bulletin. If you order the parts for the bulletin you will have everything you need for the repair.

In case you need the bulletin for the part numbers, you can download it from here: 2007 Nissan Xterra Service Bulletins - Nissanhelp.com

You can also find videos of the infamous Nissan VQ40DE timing chain whine on YouTube if you want to compare your noise.

Here is a photo of the secondary timing chain tensioner shoes. The one, you can clearly see is worn out. These shoes sit on a metal plunger that puts tension on the secondary chains. These shoes wear all the way through the plastic, and the metal chain is then riding on the metal plunger (the big hole in the middle), which makes your whine noise. These two came out of the same engine. It was actually a pathfinder. One is clearly worn all the way out. The other was on its way, but not nearly as bad. Hope this helps you understand how it works so you don't get jerked around.
