Default Xterra error code 0430

Hi All,

I have the error code 0430, which is the drivers side catalytic converter. Does anyone know if the 02 sensor may make this code show up? I want to avoid replacing the cat if at all possible.

Thanks,

Mike

It could, but it would also set an oxygen sensor code, as well. Usually it's the converter between the front and rear sensors that is the fault, but other things that can cause this code include"

-exhaust leaks
-intake leaks
-fuel injectors
-spark plugs
-incorrect ignition timing

Some have used spark plug spacers on the rear O2 sensor(s) to '"trick" the computer by pulling the sensor's element partially out of the exhaust stream and keeps the code from setting. The spacers can be purchased from some performance parts companies or made from spark plug anti-foulers by drilling out the end so the O2 sensor element can pass through it.
