Default 2000 Xterra OBD II Plug does not work????

Hello

I have a 2000 Xterra and the OBD II plug does not work. I can read the Mil Engine codes manually watching the blinking light method, but for some reason my OBD II plug will not work. I have tried 2 different OBD II Scanners and they both don't see a signal from the computer.

Is there a fuse that might be blown? Can anyone tell me what other electrical items share the same fuse with the OBD II plug so I can test them to see if they work.

I tried to smog my car and it passed everythig but I failed because the tech said my OBD II Plug is not working.

Any thoughts???

I know there is a fuse for the connector, but I'm not sure which one. Try #26

Update.... Any ideas????

Here is what I have found.

The OBD plug has power. I measured the following:

12.04 volts touching pin 16(Power) and pin 4 (Signal Ground)

12.06 volts touching pin 16(Power) and pin 5 (Chassis Ground)

The scanner will not link to the computer when the Key is in the on position.

Heres the stange thing!!! If I press and hold the brake down, the scanner will link to the computer and work.

However if start the engine and try to run the scanner, it will not link to the computer no matter what I try, pressing brake, etc. I tried the scanner on a Honda and it links with the engine off and also running. I measured 14v while the engine is running on both the Honda and Xterra OBD data plugs so my Nissan is getting power.

Why would pressing the brake pedal with the key on allow the computer to link????

Side note, I cleaned the ground under the hood (fender)

I need to smog my Xterra and this data plug is driving me crazy.

My fear is taking this to the dealer and having a guy just spend hours trying to track down a problem. That could get expensive.

So does anyone have any thoughts?

Can someone with a Gen1 Xterra tell me if they are able to link an OBDII scanner while the engine is running?

Default Found the problem!

It was the 7.5 "Room Lamp" fuse located in the dash fuse box (aka #26). Thanks Nissan Tech moderator, and the good folks of this forum!!!
