2005 Xterra AC Fan only works on high (4)
My 2005 Xterra AC fan only works on the high position (#4 position). Positions 1, 2, and 3 are dead. This is not an Auto AC temperature system. Basic manual fan operation. Any ideas on failure mechanism?

I agree with mpe235, usually the problem is the fan resistor. The resistor is located on the blower motor box, behind the glove box.
Instruction here: 2005-2008 Nissan Xterra Blower Motor and/or Resistor Replacement Procedure

A/C Resistor
Quote:
The bill came to $323.74!The part [resistor 1 27150-5Z000] was $75.40.The labor was $220.Misc. charges [customer pay shop charge for repair order] was $15.40.Sales tax $12.94. This is what they did:Replaced blower motor resistor, rechecked OK.$165. plus part $75.40.Reconnected antenna cable to terminal.Rechecked OK.$55. 99 point courtesy inspection. I feel I got royally reamed. What I`d like to know is what the average cost of these repairs should be? Last edited by SHADOWHANGEN; 08-04-2009 at 08:18 PM. Reason: punctuation |

if your a/c blower is only working on one setting, its an easy fix... just purchase the part listed above and the part is located under the lower glove box. should take you 5 minutes to replace

my fan works on 1,3 and 4 but doesn't work on #2. I assume it's also my blower resistor but slightly different symptoms than others i've read on here. Anyone have any suggestions or agree?

It's very likely that the resistor is the cause of the problem.

Unfortunately you did. It takes 5 minutes to replaced the part. But I also think the dealer definitely over charge you, they knew the problem was the resistor and they still charge you $165 to install it! we charge 0.5 hours to replaced it, at my shop that's around $35 but at the dealer its probably $60.
Do you know what is the labor rate of your dealer? if is around $100 you should contact the manager and explain the situation. If he is a cool guy and you ask him in a good manner, you may get a credit for a future service, but I don't think you can get your money back. |

it's extremely easy to do. It took me literally 5 minutes. no need to take out the glove box like the instructions say. buy the new resistor. get a flash light, look underneath the glove box and you'll see the old resistor insterted upward with a 4 pin connector and held by two hex screws. Take out the connecter, remove the 2 screws, clip in the new one, insert screws and you're done. probably easier to take out the screws first then disconnect the connector. you'll figure it out, it's easy. and the blower does seems to blow harder than before.
