Smile Hole on Rear Chassis - Any DIY methods available?

Hi Friends,

I just discovered a 1 inch hole under the rear wheel chasis of my X-trail. For my good fortune, its not the rainy season yet as whinter is just coming to an end. I was thinking of sticking a Bitumen tape to cover it so that water won't get in but not sure whethet it will stick over time.

Can someone help me by advising what would be the best way to fix it? Doing a tinkering job may be expensive and may lead to added corrosion. This is why I am trying to see whether there is a better alternative.

Pls. help me if you you can. Thanks in advance.

Hay guys, I went to Canadian tire and bought a Fibreglass repair kit. Its a product called "Bondo" from 3M. This should do the trick, I will try it out and post the results. Looks like others have no issue such as this?

It worked. Bit messy but its under the chassis right! Its as hard as solid rock! I think Bondo is a great product to do repair/ patch work on metal body.
