Question Hissing noise on brand new Sentra.

Hello,
Just bought a brand new Sentra 2.0S 2007. Soon after delivery, I discovered a loud hissing sound when I go over 40 mph. Got to the dealer and they told me that it was due to an accessory: the plastic Hood Deflector.

They changed it but the new one is as noisy as the old one. They told me that's a design/conception problem and this has also occured on the Versa.

Anyone ever heard about this?
Am I beeing framed?

A hood deflector is not a nissan accessory. It must be some kind of aftermarket add on. I own a 2007 sentra and haven't had any unusual noises. Also I have never heard of any noise problems on the versa.

A hood deflector changes the way air flows over the hood and then the top of the car. What you're hearing is the change in pressure of the air itself as it passes over the deflector. Try operating a pneumatic spray nozzle and see if that doesn't sound close to what you hear in your car. My money says it does.

Hello,
As for the deflector manufacturer: this is an item that can be selected as an option from Nissan's web site. I don't know if it is manufactured by a sub-contractor of Nissan but it is sold as a genuine Nissan item. I got it directly from my dealer.

I also own a Toyota wich has also a hood deflector. No problems, no noises, for three years now.

I have two guesses for the noise:
1- Some air flows under the deflector, which then act as a clarinet reed.
2- The deflector material is not hard enough. Under certain amount of pressure, it enters resonance at an audible frequency.

I just checked nissan's web site. No hood deflector available. They only offer them for the trucks. Are you maybe talking about the nose mask?

Two different vehicles, two differently shaped deflectors.

Hello,

Take a look on this page.

Nissan Canada | Sentra | Accessories

Third item... Available only in Canada?

That is very surprising. Why wouldn't they offer them in the U.S.

Because we're not cool.

There are a lot of options available on a lot of models that aren't available on cars sold in the US.
