Default Driver door won't open - latch broken

OK, I need help bad.

The drivers door on my 2002 Sentra won't open. I thing the latch itself is broken. I've partially pulled the door panel off and checked the control rods. They are all connected properly. Both the inside and outside handles are acting like the door is locked. I've even reached inside to put direct pressure on the locking mechanism and it still won't budge. If I could get it open, I would pull the latch and replace it.

Any ideas about how to get it open???

Getting the door open it's difficult. What I have done is using a very long screw driver to hit the lock until it brakes. Unfortunately I don't know any other solutions.
