2005 1.8 Cruise Control problem
My cruise control wont "hold" sometimes. It started on a deceleration (downhill highway) and the cruise quite just like it would if you hit the break.
It happens more often now. The cruise light and set light work when the cruise control works and then when it quits working the set light flashes. Doesn't look like much vacuum in the Nissan 05 Sentra - so am I looking at a sensor/solenoid issue? TIA, D |

System is electronic, so no vacuum actuator. It could be either or neither of those items. When the light flashes, it is indicating trouble with the system; the number of flashes may indicate a trouble code. You'll want to look at a Nissan factory service manual for the cruise control system trouble diagnosis. A downloadable version should be available on the web, if not here in the site's "knowledge base" section. A scantool "may" also be required, among other tools (12v test light, multimeter, etc).

Thanks! Today it worked perfectly twice (over 20 miles of hilly highway driving) each way....
Will the cruise continue to fail worse over time? Seems to me that a sensor feedback system would break all the way and permanently not the way this is happening... |

It's what's referred to as an "intermittent failure." This could be caused by anything in the cruise control system, like a poor contact in a harness connector, weak solder joint on a circuit board in the control unit, a wire that is sometimes shorting out against a body part, or any of a number of things. It can be almost impossible to diagnose something if you can't duplicate, which is why it is important to get it checked out when the problem exists.
