Default Nissan Sentra 2002 1.8l QG18DE timming chain issues

Hello All,

While I was changing a head and checking for cracks in the cylinder walls of the block on a Nissan Sentra 2002 1.8l QG18DE The timming chain must have slipped on the crank shaft sprocket. I thinking this happened given after I reattached the chain to the marks on the intake and exhaust sprockets the marks on the crankshaft did not align up to the TDC marks on crankshaft. I was not able to make two full revolutions with the timming chain attached. The valves must be hitting the pistons?

How can I correct this?

Thanks a million.

Eric

Go back to the start point, and re-do it.

Default Eric timming chain problems

Hello John,

Thanks for your reply. Since I never removed the timming chain from the crankshaft sprocket. Do you think I can correct this problem WITHOUT removing the front timming chain cover? This would save me an awful lot of time. Thanks again.

Sincerely,

Eric

I think you can. follow the fsm, it should show you how. I would set it back to where the crank is at TDC and then remove the tensioner. then move the cams to the proper positions and make sure you have the right # of links between them.
