Default RE: 2005 Nissan Sentra 1.8l Head gasket replacement questio

Hello All,

I am replacing a head gasket on a 2005 Nissan Sentra 1.8L. The Hayes manual is not very clear as to whether I need to remove (dismantle the timing chain) prior to removing the head?

Thanks,

EZabin

You don't need to remove it completely. You can get to tensioner by removing the small cover on the passenger side of the cylinder head. Paint marks on the timing chain and gears for realignment . you can remove the top portion of the chain and set it down at the base of the cylinder head. As long as you don't change the position of the crankshaft while it is apart all you have to do is line up the marks you already made for reassembly.

Hi

Thanks. Yes I unfortunately, moved the as I had to see if the cylinder walls in the block were not cracked. Any way to correct this without pulling off the front cover?

Thanks,

Eric

just rotate the crankshaft again 360 degrees so that Cyl. #1 will be at TDC.
