I received the parts a couple of days ago, and i changed the sensor yesterday. Its a fairly simple task, but getting your hands in the confined space, to hold the 10 mm scoket onto the nut, will be an issue.

Make sure you don't drop the socket, as it can get lodged into places you don't want it to. I dropped it, and i had to get under the car to find it in the most unlikely places.

What are the symptoms of the Intake valve timing sensor? Does it have a rough idle then as driving it corrects and runs normal? Would the advance timing gear cause that problem?

lrizzell, i did not experience any negative effects due to the malfunctioning intake valve timing sensor, just the annoying check engine light.

I know this is am old thread but I wanted to clear up the confusion about these 3 sensors. The picture that the o.p. posted is the correct location of the variable timing control sensor. U can't get them from pepboys or autozone,or whatever auto parts store u go to.it is located on the timing cover is a 10mm bolt and Use a flat head and pry on it lightly, then pull it out. The camshaft position sensor is on the driver side of the cylinder head by the thermostat housing. And the crank shaft position sensor is on the back of the block at the very bottom on the driver side is directly in front of my rear motor mount. I have the spec v QR25DE+T. The camshaft and crank shaft position sensor ate the same part# 2 different parts but they use the same sensor. So hippie that helps a little.

I have a 2000 Nissan Sentra 1.8, 3N1CB51DXYL334821, that is getting a p1140. There was a recall on 12/2003 under the recall id (R3022/03V-345) - url http://maxima.theowensfamily.com/tsb/NTB03-124.pdf

The part # for my nissan is 23731-4M528 which includes 3 sensors (Crankshaft Position Sensor, Camshaft Position Sensor and a Variable Timing Control Sensor not the solenoid). I've replaced the first two and still get the code. I was going to replace the Variable Timing Control Sensor (Nissan PN - 23731-6J965 or supplier PN - A29-640-CJ1) but can't seem to find the part. The Variable Timing Control Position Sensor is not in the 2003 but IS in the 2000. The sensor does exist as I pulled it as instructed by the recall pdf above. It looks like the other 2 sensors but is straight not bent.

Do you know if the kit, with the 3 sensors, is under a new part # or if the variable timing control position sensor is known under a different name?

Thanks!
Rob

I ran into the same issue. I just bought my "new" 2002 Sentra GXE with 147,000 miles and after 100 miles the check engine light turned on. Code P1140
I read this thread and ran into the same issue.
velzyboard, what did you finally come up with?
I can't find the Variable Timing Control Sensor.

I did find out that there is a new part #.

The old recall part # is 23731-4M528
The NEW recall part # is 23731 - 4M529

Thanks for responding. I was wondering if this thread was dead. Lol.
Did you buy it and install it?

Sure did. Picked it up at a local Nissan dealer and put them in. I am a novice at repairing my car. So, if I can do it, I think anybody can :-)
