after one changes the maf sensor would the car have to be reprogramed at all?

depends on the vehicle and the air flow meter that was installed. i do not think sentras get reprogramed for air flow meter problems.

I have a 2002 with a 2.5L though and I think that you have to do an idle relearn with mine, but yours is a 1.8L and I don't think that yours has half the crap (luckily) like the drive by wire system.

i tried cleaning the maf meter with the appropriate cleaner. that didnt work so i tried replacing the maf meter. started the car same problem wouldnt maintain an idle and stalled out.

called the stealership which directed me to the maf in the first place. they saying it was the maf assembly not the meter.

is there a difference between the maf meter and the maf assembly? originally they said it was the maf meter now they tacking an extra word onto the end and saying that is why it didnt work.

thanks to all for your help so far.

could it be the ecm? just wondering as originally first person who looked at car thought it was the ecm. could it be a matter of simply reprogrammnig the ecm?

sorry im stumped. trying to save all the extra money from the stealership and there solution didnt help.

You can try to do the idle air relearn proceedure. Check out the link above in the FSM for instructions (it's a bunch of steps). Don't get frustrated if you don't get it on the first few hundred tries.
