Default Nissan Quest check engine light

Hi everyone,
I have a 93 Quest. Recently check engine light came on and got the following reading in my scanner.

34 Detonation sensor or circuit
51 Injector signal circuit open

I notice that the van in vibrating more than usual...and has less power.

Any insight on this is greatly appreciated.

Based on what codes you have and your description, it sounds like you have a bad fuel injector (or circuit problem to it), causing a misfire. You can probably locate the incident cylinder by disabling a cylinder one at a time; assuming you don't have a scan tool to do this, you can use spark plug wire pliers to remove one spark plug wire at a time at the distributor cap with the engine running to see if the engine runs worse or runs the same. If it stays the same, reinstall the wire on the cap and try the next one. When you remove the wire and the engine runs the same (no change in RPM), you likely have found the misfiring cylinder. You can unplug the fuel injector harness and install a "noid light" to check the circuit. It'll flash while the engine is running if it is getting power and pulse to ground from the ECM. If the circuit is good, then likely the fuel injector is bad. If it doesn't flash, you'll need to check for power with the key "on" at the injector harness connector with a 12v test light. If that's good, then you need to check the circuit from the injector harness to the ECM for an open or shorted circuit. If that is good, then check the ground circuits at the ECM harness connector. If those are good, then it is likely that the ECM has a bad driver and needs to be replaced. In most cases, it is usually just the fuel injector, itself. For more info, you can refer to the trouble diagnostics for a "51" trouble code in the factory service manual's "engine control" section. There may be a downloadable copy in the "knowledge base" at this site. As far as the "34" knock sensor code, it is likely triggered by the misfire, so, ignore it for now. When the problem is fixed, clear the codes and recheck in a few days to see if it returns.
