Default 07 Quest P0011 & P0340

While my wife was driving home the other day our Quest (80,000 miles) died and hasn't started since. It has had the dreaded timing chain rattle for a couple months now. It is throwing codes P0011 & P0340. I have went through the manual and replaced both the cam position sensors and the crank position sensor, checked all the harnesses and electrical to these sensors. Still no luck. The only things I haven't checked are the timing and the bank 1 IVT valve. Also it had about 2 extra quarts of oil in it (long story) and when it died she had driven down a fairly steep incline and back up again.

Anybody have any ideas on what to do next? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you already replaced the sensors you may have to start by checking the basics, fuel pressure and spark at the spark plugs.

Thanks for the fast response. I had a friend check it out and he says it is losing spark and pulse width to the injectors at the same time. According to him it has injector pulse and spark for only a split second each time he cranks it over. Fuel pressure is fine.

Your chain has stretched due to bad tensioners.
Trust me.

Sounds like timing chain to me. Usually the guide on the tensioner side of the chain breaks and the plastic on the surface slides down to the bottom. This is also where the plunger for the tensioner rides. It causes the tensioner to push all the way out leaving very little tension on the chain. That makes it easy for the chain to slip over the teeth on the timing gears. It probably happened going up the hill while the engine was under load.

One last question guys. What are the chances that the valves are any good after all this?

Ok, I replaced the timing chains and it actually starts now. It is still throwing the same codes and going into limp mode. Any idea now?

^After market???
Man, why go through all that trouble with tackling the chains and then taking a chance on aftermarket parts for it?
