Default Rattling when I accelerate

About a month ago my Quest started rattling when I accelerated. It started out very faint but now is louder and only happens when I accelerate. I have recently had the belts changed out on it and also had the mechanic check it out. He said everything was fine. He did say I was missing the parts the allowed the belts to be tightened but that I had been operating without them and I was fine. He said he thinks that is where it was coming from. I am not car savy but not an idiot either. My husband is deployed and he is the one that usually deals with the mechanics. I have no lights going off and no other problems. What could it be?

also I had the catalytic converter replaced about 3 years ago. I had read threads saying that could be it. Don't think that is it.

1. do you think the rattle is coming from the passenger wheel area or more to the front like the radiator area.
2. idk what was missing. is it the tension adjustment lock nut or the idler pulley bolt. the fact the belt hasn't come off may be its not. whatever it is, your mechanic should have taken care of it instead of letting you keep driving without that part. so you need to go back and have him take care of it.
3. have your motor mount inspected especially the passenger side and front. hope this helps.

I'have just noticed that my car rattles when accelerating, but stops when I reach around 25mph. What could this be and what would the estimate be on how much it would it cost to fix?

I have a similar problem and replaced the exhaust pipe's bracket. It took me a while to find the cracked bracket, but it's not too bad to replace 2 broken brackets.

I posted this before:

"2005 Quest, 72K. Have been having this annoying rattling noise almost every time at 2000rpm.

Found two service bulletins for it: NTB05-021e and NTB05-095

According to 021e bulletin the noise is due to 2 cracked support brackets that connect the transmission housing to the catalysts. I was pretty sure that was it because they were indeed completely broken on our van. I replaced them and...nothing, the rattle was still there.

The 095 bulletin attributes the rattle to the B1 catalyst heat shield which I checked and it was solid, no movement or anything at the heat shield welds.

Well, the van was throwing a P0420 code and the shop replaced that catalyst under 8year/80K warranty. Guess what? The rattle is GONE! It was indeed the B1 catalyst that rattled."

As you can see there can be 2 causes of rattle:
1. Cracked support bracket
2. catalyst converter heat shield

OP, if you are sure it's not the converter, then it MUST be the exhaust brackets...

Good luck
