2009 Murano downstream O2 help

Ok guys, I have located the sensors but I'll be darned if I can figure out how to get at these things to get them out. Can anyone give me the correct tools and tell me how to get these suckers out? I got an o2 sensor kit but I just can't get any extensions to fit and give me access to try to even attempt to get them out. I have searched all over the net and nothing.

Help!!!

I'm wondering if I need to drop the cat to gain better access?

I'm not sure what sensor(s) you're trying to replace. Obviously you will need to remove any components to gain access.

Tools: 02 sensor socket 7/8", 3/8" rachet. You might also need a socket extension. You can buy a 3 piece extension with longest I think 14 inches. You might also need a swivel socket adapter.

My apology your thread title did say Downstream 02 sensor and I missed it. You might have to access it from under the car. You still need the same tools but if the regular 02 sensor socket is too long because there's something in front like exhaust pipe or whatever, you will need the short version 02 sensor socket. If that is the case, you won't need the swivel adapter nor the socket extension.

Thank you for your responses. They are not accessible from the top of the engine at all. I need someone who has actually replaced these to advise. I tried a wobble extension but there is just no way to get any torgue with they they are situated. I don't want to remove the cat if it isn't necessary but I don't see any other way to really do it.

I haven't done a Murano, but I've done Maximas with the 3.5L. I haven a assortment of O2 sensor sockets for different situations, but for the one way up behind the engine, I believe I used to cut the harness off of the sensor and use the box end of a long combination wrench to break the sensor loose. Then, I would unscrew the sensor by hand and reverse procedure to install (except the part about cutting the harness, obviously). It's best to stick with genuine Nissan, NTK or Denso sensors.

Thanks, how about the front one? There is no space between the cat, oilpan and header to get at it?

Again, I can only tell you how I got them on the Maximas. On those, I got them from under the car after removing the plastic engine cover. I would use a Kent-Moore J-38365-A oxygen sensor wrench that looks like this:

You could also try doing the same thing as I suggested for the rear sensor: cut off the sensor's harness and use the box end of a combination wrench on it.
