PC Based Diagnostic Tools

I am very interested if anyone has knowledge of a good quality PC Based Diagnostic Scan Program for Nissan. I was looking at the ScanXL Pro through ScanTool.net LLC - Scan Tools, PC-based OBD-II (OBD2) Interfaces, OBD diagnostic software , but was interested about the Nissan specific diagnostics. I want to find something that is going to aid me in diagnosis of the real problem instead tearing stuff apart just to find out that is not the real problem. My question is if anyone has found such a product and if so how much? I am very tired of find out what the code is and then finding out that it covers multiple possibilities. Experts please help!

scantool.net is a good tool with the nissan upgrade package, but if you are serious about a scantool for almosr the same money you can get the cj4 scantool doese all the stuff that the pc based and much much more. dont even think of the elm 327 its junk.

I haven't seen a scan tool that can tell you exactly what the problem is, and I believe there isn't one. That's is what the service manuals and the Internet forum are for. First of all you find the code with the scanner, then the scanner gives you what is possible wrong with the system or sensor, then manual explains how to test components and circuits, and if all the circuits and components are OK, the Internet forums gives you the most likely cause.

I'm afraid what Nissan Tech said is true. All the softwares and scan tools would tell you is/are the possible cause(s).

Some are specifics enough that you know what the specific problem is, such as P0335 for example which points to the "crankshaft position sensor. But that's what you really need anyway. Something to help you what might be the possible problem and make repairs accordingly. Most of the time it works.
