Tie Rod (Inner) Replacement Questions

Hi folks.

I was told by my local repair shop that I needed a new right inner tie rod end. I want to replace it myself to save some bucks. I started looking at the manual and it looks like you are supposed to pull the entire rack in order to replace these. Is that true, or can I remove the inner tie rod end with the rack assembly still on the car? Also, does anyone have any recommendations on brands? Does Beck-Arnley make decent parts? I know Moog stuff is good, but this car has 146000 miles on it and I'm becoming more interested in saving money than putting the very best parts on it any more.

Thanks in advance,
- Bob

You don't have to remove the rack. Remove the outer tie rod and the rack boot and then you can remove the inner tie rod.

Thanks. The repair manual is very unclear about a lot of these items. Of course, Nissan seems to want you to replace entire subsystems instead of indiviaul components.

Make sure you get a wheel alignment afterwards.

Do I need a special tool to remove the inner tie rods (or sockets, as Nissan calls them)? I saw an "inner tie rod removal tool" in a listing for tools you can borrow from Auto Zone or Advance Auto.
