Unhappy 1994 Pathfinder leaky master cylinder - why?

I have two question regarding my master cylinder. The first is, in the attached picture (click to make larger), what is the valve/hole I have circled in red? it is visibly leaking brake fluid from there.

Second, where is the bleed valve on my master cylinder, or is there one?

Thanks!

Pressure check valve.

No there is no bleed valve. To bleed the brake master cylinder you have to pump the brake pedal, hold it down and partially loosen one of the brake lines.

Ok, cool... now why would the pressure check valve be leaking, and can it be repaired, or do I need to replace the entire thing?

Probably the seals inside the brake master cylinder.

You can rebuild it, but is probably less expensive to replaced it, besides after 14 years its probably a good idea to replaced it with a new one.
