Mobil 1 Synthetic for Transmission, transfer case
'05 Pathfinder LE
According to the Nissan manual, the transmission and transfer case must be Nissan fluid. The Nissan Manual states that Canadian models may use Dexron II, however, nothing about a US model replacement fluid. Q: Are the Canadian models different? Q2: Can you substitute Mobil 1 Synthetic transmission fluid for both the transmission and transfer case? Thanks, Ken |

The transmission must use Matic J fluid only available from nissan. The transfer case takes Nissan matic D which is the same as the Dexron II so you could put the synthetic in there.

It turns out that my transmission uses some special fluid that is recommended for replacement at 60k miles so 25kmiles to go. I'm told that the fluid costs about $20/quart...
