I run it and the temp gauge appears normal but the engine overheats and starts to blow out of the overflow. Does anybody know why this is happening?

Were you able to root cause and resolve the overheating issue?
Your issue could be
a) weak water pump ($$$) , since the other major components of the cooling system seem ok
b) bad coolant temperature sensor ($)
