Default 2000 Pathfinder transfer case fluid?

I am getting very different input as to which specific transfer case fluid to use on my 2000 Pathfinder SE, automatic transmission, manual 4x4 selector on the floor, part time 4x4. The book is somewhat differing as to which specific lubrication fluid to use. One says Dexron/Mercon III or IV. The other recommends 75-90 GL-4. Now, please set me straight as to which is best to use. My 2000 Pathy has 147,000 plus miles on the odometer. Appears to have been used lightly and very little off road use. There is a droning noise that I have been chasing in the drivetrain that does not interfere in normal use. I have changed transmission fluids, differential fluids, engine oil and brake fluids since I bought this car in Dec. Runs great, shifts positive, 4WD works great. The droning noise has me baffled. In the maintenance manual it states that a noise from the Tcase can make noise if wrong fluid is used. That is the reason I am trying to find out which specific Tcase lubricant to use. Thanx for the input and help. MTG

OK, dumped my t/c to find brown/red ATF. Replaced with Castrol high mileage ATF formulated for Nissan transmissions and t/c requiring Nissan Matic “D” ATF. MTG
