Default Nissan Pathfinder 2005 SVE. 2.5 Diesel

Would appreciate any feedback to a knocking sound inside the rear of my pathfinder. The knocking is present when stationary with the engine running and also with just the ignition on. The sound knocks 5 or so times with about a 30 second gap before repeating. The sound appears to be above floor level and either in the roof or behind the plastic panels in the rear 2 seats. Many thanks

Do you have rear heating and air conditioning? If so, the noise may be due to the mode door actuator at the rear heating and cooling unit. The teeth will wear on the plastic gear inside the actuator inside the actuator, causing it to slip. Not sure it's in the same place on the European R51's, but in North America, it's behind the right-rear, interior finisher.

Thanks for the info. Yes, it does appear to be the acuator. Tried driving and stationary with air con on and off, no noise at all with the air con off.
Many thanks
