Default Rear Camera View When NOT in Reverse

[Edit 2017 not 2018]
2018 SV no tech package.

OK not sure if this was an electronic hiccup or if there's a way I'm not aware of. Yesterday while out and about, I backed out of a parking space, put the PF in Drive and drove away. I noticed the center screen was still showing the backup camera but without the guide lines. At the next stop light, I shifted into Park then back into Drive and it went away. So my question is:

Is there a way to turn on the backup camera without being in Reverse? My wife's Honda has a camera on the passenger mirror. It comes on automatically when she turns on the right turn signal. She can also push a button on the end of the signal stem and turn on the camera. Do we have anything like this or did I have a mal-function?

Some of the Nissan models have a button near the audio controls labeled camera. If you press it the camera will display without being in reverse.
