Default Power steering question

I have recently had my power steering pump replaced, 6 months prior was rack and pinion.

The power steering is gone again. Is there anything beside the pump that causes power steering to go out?

It does kick in when I push on the gas but at idle and not moving, or something like backing out of a parking stall I have no power steering.

This is on a 2006 Pathfinder

It sounds like the recently installed pump when bad. It was likely an aftermarket, remanufactured pump installed; sometimes they're good for a long time and sometimes they're not. If there was a lot of metal debris in the old fluid and it wasn't properly flushed, that could lead to system failures. Also, red power steering fluid or Dexron ATF should be used, not clear or amber power steering fluid, which is often specified by US domestics and some European makes.
