Default 2003 3.5L Cooling System problem

I have a couple of problems to resolve. Driving home and the Engine Light came on and the temperature gauge was reading high. After getting home and the engine sitting overnight, my temp gauge still reads 243 degrees on a completely cold engine. Then running the engine, I have heat out of the top radiator hose and nothing out of the bottom so I figure the thermostat is not working. I believe the water pump is good because I am getting a constant flow of heat from the heater.

I ordered a Coolant Temp Sensor and Thermostat/Housing. Where is the Temp Sensor and any idea how difficult it is to replace? Thank you....

The hardest part is the location (behind the engine in the crossover pipe). Look behind the engine and you will see the coolant crossover pipe and from the top you will see the 1-wire coolant temp sender for the gauge and the 2-wire engine coolant temp sensor for the ECM. FYI, there is a second thermostat (Nissan calls it a water valve) in that same crossover pipe.
