2001 Pathfinder, p1140 and p1145, I dont know which parts to order?
Not mechanically inclined. But I think i am good at researching I have decided the camshaft sensors are the the likely culprit. So, i just need to know which ones to order?
Rockauto.com gives these options for "Camshaft Position Sensor" intake, exhaust, 2 pin, 3 pin, front, rear. Any advice is welcomed as well (since there is a good chance I am wrong but gotta start somewhere) edit: the pathy has been very well maintained with oil changes like clock work. Currently at 2k oil looks like its brand new, which makes me believe solenoid is not the issue. |

For P1140 & P1145 codes, the cam sensors are technically the "intake valve timing control position sensors." They are the same part number for the left and right banks, Nissan P/N 23731-2Y52A. On the aftermarket, they can be listed as either "rear" (because the mount behind the rear timing cover) or "3-pin." Personally, I would go with genuine Nissan sensors, however, I did use an SMP/Intermotor sensor one time in a pinch and it has done pretty well, so far, and was made in Japan. FYI, a faulty crank position sensor (PHASE) or crank position sensor (REF) can also cause these codes to trigger, along with dirty EGI ground points on the front timing cover.

Thanks. I spent hours googling last night and figured out most of it. But your post would have saved me a ton of time. Now if only I could tell which craigslist mechanic is honest or not...

You could always replace them yourself. They only thing holding them in is a 10MM head bolt. Unplug the harness connector, remove the bolt and remove the old sensor, apply a little Vaseline to the seal on the new sensor and reverse procedure to install.
