redo coolant flush
did my first coolant change on my new-to-me 01 pathfinder, I didn't know about the air relief tube, so didn't open it. drained the coolant and refilled the same amount with new.
poured the old coolant from the drain pan into a container and it's only a little over 1 gal. I read that it should be 2.5 gal., seems like not all of it came out. Redo it? also, does the rad. and cap look ok , with the pieces of crud. Last edited by pathfinder20; 02-19-2017 at 02:15 PM. |

I would just wipe off the "crud" in the radiator neck with a rag and wash the radiator cap in some clean water; they'll be fine.
It almost impossible to get all of the coolant out of the system, especially just by removing the radiator petcock (drain). A simple drain and fill will net about a gallon of coolant. To get more out, you will need to drain the engine block. Still, there will be some coolant that will remain in the heater core. |
