If it has only started happening since you replaced the filter, that's where I would start looking. Perhaps it's not installed properly and sucking air from behind the filter? Did you over-torque the bolts, perhaps? They are usually spec'd at around 72-80 inch pounds. FYI, the filters on Jatco automatic transmissions (which is what Nissan uses) aren't usually serviced unless there is a major trans service. As you noticed, it is really just a screen. The theory is that if there is enough debris in the trans fluid to restrict or clog the screen, then the transmission needs an overhaul rather than a fluid service because there is apparently something that is breaking down (usually band and clutch fibers are the only thing that will clog a filter outside of outside contamination, like engine coolant due to a failed cooler.
