01 Pathfinder - Front Axle and oil leak (pass side)
I have an 01 Pathfinder that has an oil leak on the front passenger side. Upon examination, I found that the CV boot appears to have separated from the axle.
Does the entire axle need to be replaced? Also, is the oil leak from the axle, or is it from some other source? If so, what is the likely culprit? Thanks, Tom. |

Update: that picture is the boot for the rack and pinion steering. the leak may be coming from this component. I am not comfortable working on this, so the car is at a local Les Schwab

I just replaced earlier this year both rack bellows (boots) on my daughter's 1998 Pathfinder 4WD, was pretty straightforward if you know how to R&R a tie rod end without damaging it, like the right type of puller.
I understand that job is not for everyone. Later in the year I replaced a front CV axle for her which also developed a split boot, saw a decent YouTube video on this, also straightforward ($75 lifetime warranty, two new boots). |
