Thumbs down Pathfider torque converter install

Hi, I have a 95 Pathfinder with a VG30E engine and swapped the 290,000 mile engine for a 56k engine but when I go to putting the torque converter back in the transmission it doesn't want to go in far enough. I've turned both ways slowly and fast while pushing in and jiggling up and down and two hours later still I have to go another half inch!! HEELPP!! Are there any tricks to this?
