Default 06 Pathfinder PNP/Neutral Safety Switch

The engine light came on in my 2006 Pathfinder (95K miles, SE, 4.0L V6) while I was traveling over Thanksgiving and when checked the code read P0850.

I took it to the dealer who told me that I needed a new Neutral Safety Switch, and to fix the problem I would have to replace the entire valve body.

I've tried searching the forums for "Neutral Safety Switch" and "PNP Switch" to no avail.

Has anyone else had this particular problem, and is there an easier fix than replacing the costly valve body? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Unfortunately they are correct, the PNP switch it's part of the valve body. I suggest getting a second opinion from a transmission specialist, dealer techs are not always transmission specialist and, due to the cost of the dealers labor rate, it may not be cost effective to repair the valve body.

Do you have symptoms, beside the engine light? if you don't you could also try erasing the code first. The P0850 code is not common and could be just a glitch.

Awesome, thanks! They didn't clear the code when it was at the dealership and I don't have any symptoms as of yet. Will get the code cleared to start and go from there.

I don't mean to high jack this post but do you know if the PNP valve body thing is also found in the 05 Nissan Frontier Se as well? I've also run into an Park/neutral position switch code on my setvive engine soon light check. I also had issues with my rear left tail light/blinker going out. Could these issues be related?

I've heard of a number of failed PNP switches at the Pathfinder forum where I'm a moderator. Replacing the valve body/TCM assembly is the typical fix. I would imagine a 2005 Frontier would be similar as they both run the same transmission. I can't see where it would be related to the tail lamp issue, however.
