Default 2005-2010 nissan pathfinder; buzzing / whining noise from timing chain area

Is there a fix for this so it doesnt happen again? I think my 06 Pathfinder is making this noise.

chain, tensioner, and a whole bunch of other stuff (seals, coolant, oil & filter...) has to be swapped. @ the dealer, should cost bout $1500 and in the shop for at least a few days, 4 tops.

Last time I called about it (bout a year ago), they were doing something to the ECU and would be ready in a few hours.

I'd seriously consider taking it to a dealer. I could be wrong, but it may still be under warranty.

Default Time Chain Noise

Same thing here.... there is a technical service bulletin out, been out for quite some time, that dealers have had.

My mechanic said as long as it was not the tensioner (sp?), the PathFinder has a chain not a belt and, well, they hardly ever go. Been driving mine over 30,000 miles with the noise.

Dealer confirmed today I have the problem. Ordered parts and will fix next week. They also showed me a updated TSB Dated Jan 4 2010 but I didnt get to look at whole TSB to see difference in that one and the one Dated Nov 16 2009.

The only difference on the new tsb is they don't replace the entire tensioner anymore. They replace the plastic shoe on it.

Default happen to mine at around 70k

i had to have this done at around 70k on my 05 cost me like 1200 and thats with nissan coving the rest of the bill think it was like 2700.00 all together. live in Ca. They had to replace a crap load of parts. The part that starts all this trouble has been upgraded so they said I never seen the part that failed.

Same problem started on my 2005 Pathfinder at 98k miles. Has anyone had it done anywhere besides a dealer to be repaired?

Default 2005 Pathfinder Timing Chain

I just had timing chains tensioners, gears, oil change and a coolant flush done at the dealer. Took them 2 days to complete project with a final bill of $1800. Service advisor claims they sure have been doing a lot of these lately I asked if any of the replaced parts were updated parts..he didn't know, but said I "should be good for a while again". When I purchased this vehicle new this engine with a timing chain was a big sales pitch for Nissan because of others having belts that need to be changed at 100k. So far so bad for that. I have an email into Nissan Consumer Affairs about this being so common. Details to follow.

Default 2006 pathfinder, 87K miles, timing chain going out

Just went in for an oil change and was told the "plastic teeth" holding timing chain in place are wearing, quote from dealer was around $1200 to $1500, warranty ran out at 75k miles. Luckily the gas tank gauge (the same one that was recalled on every other vin but mine) that went out at 68k miles was still under warranty or I would be thinking Nissan sold me a POS.

Timing chain seems to be a common problem on these vehicles. Is Nissan considering a recall?

Recall already considered... depending on the mileage. Call your closest Nissan shop and find out if you still qualify for a free fix.

Nissan only extended the warranty on this issue along with the fuel gauge.
