Default A/C Making Noise

My Pathfinder's A/C is making noise. It just makes noise when it is turned on. When I popped the hood, I can't see anything but can hear it making noise. Stops when I turn the A/C off.

Still producing a cold air, no problems whatsoever. Just the noise.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

It produces a somewhat rattling noise "tak, tak, tak, tak" for some time. Then, eventually, it would cease. I was wondering if there is a need for a part to be oiled or perhaps the fan belt is loose.

Thanks mpe235

Anyone with ideas?

Anybody with the same problem and found a solution?

Thanks.

Sounds like the compressor clutch is making noise. Unfortunately there is nothing to lubricate. If the noise is indeed the compressor clutch, then the only solution is replacing the compressor.

Thanks NissanTech.

I have found compressor parts from the internet. Can i just replace the compressor clutch if indeed that is making the noise or it will be better to replace the whole compressor?

Thanks.

I suggest replacing the compressor assembly. Since your pathfinder is 10 years old, you may also have other worn out internal components.

BTW here is a nice A/C compressor animation: http://www.theautomedia.com/virtual/...compressor.swf
