Wheel lock question
I have read a couple 'horror stories' about wheel lock failures, ranging from stripped threads to exploding lugs. I had even found a post (on a different forum) about the 370Z's requiring a specific kind of keyed lug nut, although I cannot find that post now. Has anyone heard of any of this? Specifically, I'm looking for a good set of wheel locks for my 2017 370Z.

Wheel locks work fine as long as an impact gun isn't used on them. That's what causes them to strip, break and/or damage the key. If they are removed using hand tools and torqued using a torque wrench, they'll last the life of the vehicle. McGard is one of the best brands and they also make the genuine Nissan set, so why not just get the Nissan set? It's part # 999W2-JT000.

I've pulled the McGard key into pieces twice on wheels that never ever had impacts used on them as I do 100% of all my own work. And somewhat undertorquing them, I never use the full amount. It takes a couple years use to fatigue them enough to break though.
Just sayin'.............I was forced to work out a method to get the lugs off without hurting the wheels at all. Takes 8-10 minutes a wheel to do it. |

Thanks. I decided to go with Nissan's locks. I'll be overpaying but I haven't heard any complaints about them... yet.
