Steering Lock issue 370Z
Various years of the 370Z (namely 2009 and 2010) models have encountered problems with the steering lock becoming inoperable thereby making the vehicle impossible to start or to shut off depending on whether the car was running or turned off when the steering lock failure occurred. A Techical Bulletin NTB12-41 describes the procedure for the Technician to reprogram the Body Control Module to remedy the problem.
On some forums, members recommend pulling the steering lock fuse in the engine compartment in order to prevent the problem in the first place. My question is this, is the procedure of pulling the steering lock fuse the preferred method of preventing the steering lock failure? Or, should those of us with affected VINs have the dealer apply the reprogramming procedure even though we haven't had a failure as a "pre-emptive measure" to avoid the possibility of being stranded? Lastly, does pulling the fuse have any other possible remifications and affect on other systems within the vehicle?
