Nissan recalls 405,000 older Titan, Frontier, Pathfinder and other models over airbag issue

Nissan is recalling 404,690 of its older pickup trucks, SUVs and minivans because of a potential safety issue with the airbag, according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report.

Nissan said the driver's airbag module may substantially wear out, potentially causing the posts of the emblems to crack. The emblem and retainer components of the airbag could detach and become projectiles upon deployment, posing an increased risk of injury.

• 2008-2011 Nissan Titan (75,530)
• 2008-2011 Nissan Frontier (113,313)
• 2008-2011 Nissan Xterra (72,601)
• 2008-2011 Nissan Pathfinder (70,693)
• 2008-2011 Nissan Armada (43,616)
• 2008-2009 Nissan Quest (28,937)

Nissan said it had been aware of at least four reports of injury related to the defective airbag assembly. Nissan was still working on a repair for the issue and would notify owners of the recall by April 10, the car maker said.
