1987 (stop laughing, it still runs) Maxima headlamps act burned out. On dims, one side lit, other out. On brights, other side lit, one side out. Swapped bulbs passenger for driver with same results - bulbs aren't burned out! Is it the switch, a relay?

I have a 94 max and i had a similar problem as you. Both lights on when dim but only one shined when brights were on. My problem was the relay switch so im figuring that may solve ur problem as well. I unscrewed it from the steering wheel and opened it up. on the inside u will see a box with copper strips touching the metal contacs. What you have to do is clean the contacts that way they can get a good connection. I used an ordinary eraser to do it and my problem has been fixed for the last 2 years and shes still running strong!
