Default How to Clean/Replace EGR 05 Maxima??

just picked up a good deal, or i hope...but need help getting things going

05 Maxima 148k stock

driving back was perfect after picking up, no lights. i hit traffic the next day and the car started slipping into second/ not shifting and CEL came on...P0406 EGR

Car runs/drives fine except when in traffic for as little as 5min then it slips...Let the car cool off for a little and its perfect again.

Does the EGR even affect the transmission and cause it to do this???

Oil and Transmission have already been changed/flushed...is the only thing i have done so far, plugs and coils are next to get done at the shop.

TL;DR going to try and clean the EGR if i can get to it (if anyone has a diagram that would be helpful) can anyone point me in the right direction with my car??

Thank you.

Is this a 5-speed automatic transmission? If so, they were notorious for have shifting issues due to the valve body warping. As far as the EGR, it should be not far from the throttle body. If you go into the "knowledge base" section, you can access the "engine control" section of the factory service manual for your vehicle. It will have the diagnostic steps for your trouble code and should have a picture of the EGR system, as well. I wouldn't think the EGR is causing the transmission issue. If it was stuck closed, it would just trigger the CEL. If it was stuck open, you would get a lean, rough idle. This is an electronic EGR, so it is possible that it could fail electronically rather than just because it is dirty. Following the FSM diagnostics should help isolate the problem.
