Default 2002 Maxima. Replaced engine and showing code P1612

I just replaced the engine on my 02 Maxima last week. The engine is in, but it's not starting and giving me the code P1612 which means the keys need to be reset. My mechanic says that he doesn't think they do and that the computer just has to be reset. Has this happened to anyone else? Any Advice?

Sometimes if a battery is disconnected for a long time, the key signal memory can be lost in the ECM, meaning the keys will need to be re-initialized. Some locksmiths may be able to do it if they have the equipment, but usually this means towing the car to a Nissan or Infiniti dealer and having them do it.

Okay, so I shouldn't have to reset the Computer and re-initializing the keys should do the trick?

I can't guarantee you anything, but my experience as a former Nissan tech would tell me to try initializing the keys, first, before doing anything else.

So the car is still able to go into gear, it just doesn't turn over means initiating the keys is the best bet?
