2001 Hard Start
2001 GXE
114,000 miles I am having issues with intermittent starting problems. I have been reading several posts and it seems like maybe the Crankshaft or Camshaft sensors may be to blame. I have no codes. Once the car starts, there are no problems - so I don't think it is the fuel pump. Which of the sensors would most likely be responsible for a hard start (camshaft or crankshaft)? If the crankshaft - should I replace both POS and REF? Thanks in advance. |

I should add that the starter works fine - the engine cranks well, it just won't turn over. Sometimes it appears to "catch" and start, but then just keeps cranking. Turning the key off then back on sometimes fixes the problem.

Doing more reading. Would a failing fuel pressure regulator cause this? Is there a way to test it with out the vacuum and pressure tools?

It could be your ignition switch so test it. You can also do a fuel pressure test.

suspect insufficient ground. is the negative battery cable bolted to the engine block (not to the transmission housing)? if so, try adding a ground conductor (3 #10 awg in parallel or 1 #4 awg & make it as short as possible). connect one end directly to the negative terminal of the battery. use ring terminal on the other end & slip it through one of the starter mounting bolts (or to one of the transmission mounting bolts - which ever is more convenient). make the contact surfaces of all connections shiny clean, including bolt heads, both sides of washers, etc. also make the main ground cable connection shiny clean. before adding ground conductor, try your jumper cable if it will help.
