2006 Maxima, Recommended items to replace
I am going to be taking my car in to get the timing chain done. What other things do you recommend I replace while everything is out and they are there.
Spark plugs, water/fuel pump, thermostat?? I also have a loud knocking sound upon start up. Would you recommend I go to a dealer or would any mechanic shop do? |

I would definitely replace the water pump and thermostat while in there. I would replace the primary tensioner and would look at the guides for wear. If the spark plugs are due, replace them, but there really isn't much overlap unless they plan on removing the valve covers to put a wrench on the cams to hold them in place while torquing the cam gear bolts (rather than use a ring gear stopper). It would be a good time to consider the serpentine belt and tensioner and inspect the idler pulleys. I would first investigate the knocking noise. A competent and reputable independent repair shop should have no problem doing the job.
